Why Password Strength is Important
We learned the hard way why password strength is important to website security and we hope to spare you that heartache by sharing our learned knowledge. Now, most people typically use the same password in varying forms for all of their logins. It’s easy to remember and when you have 30 different logins and passwords it can get overwhelming. But hackers look for these type of things. Not only should your password be complicated it should make absolutely no sense.
Whether you are logging into your computer, your healthcare portal, or cpanel, your password should be complicated. It should be over 10 characters long, with numbers, symbols, upper and lower case and be completely random. No dog names, words, or astrological sign. Hackers look for any vulnerabilities they can find and it starts with the password. Now, right after you read this post, write down all of the websites that you have a login and password for. Come up with a random number/symbol/character password and write it down. Then start from #1 and change all of your passwords. While this is a hard task, you will sleep better knowing your information is one step closer to being safe.
It is critical for your personal information, your website (which you just spent a lot of money having designed) and your sanity that the first line of defense in cyber-security (password strength) is taken care of. Most of us overlook it until it’s too late. Now, stop reading and get to changing those dog names!!
